I currently have one near the lifepod but I might make more outposts (extra habitats) on interesting areas.

I have my main base and usually a lost river outpost to make any traveling down there easier

I always build a main base near the magnetite cave and one outpost in a good position to reach the late game locations

I have one in blood kelp zone, as it connects to multiple biomes

And one in inactive lava zone, as a way to repair transport, get some food and collect resources
