So this theory probably isn't new but I had to share.
So I did a bit of looking around and despite it being seen in the early access days, no Reaper leviathan has Kharaa in the full game. Maida was riding a dead one all the way to sector zero feeding off its flesh and burning its fat for warmth... I think the Reaper may be immune to Kharaa, the reason it wasn't discovered by the architects is... I think the reason is obvious why, nobody but riley is insane enough to get near that thing, your PDA congratulates you for doing so! And there is no indication of any reaper samples in any of their bases around the planet. I think Reapers have their own immunity function to Kharaa that you can only recieve by eating the creature itself. It definitely isn't as permanent or effective as Enzyme 42 but since Maida has survived for a good while until the cure was released into nature, Reaper meat is probably a good way to slow the infection.
Feel free to point out flaws with this, but I think I'm onto something.
I hate the placement of the dunes... It's so easy to wander into it early on in playing, I was passing along near the grassy plateau and kelp forests and I could see the dunes! So I of course was avoiding them, as I was passing along the edge of a kelp forest near the dunes, never entering them, didn't even get the pda warning.
POP!
Reaper tail right in my fucking face out of nowhere! I paused and quit to my last save point, which unfortunately was on the aurora... At night... When I was ready to leave... So yeah panic attack number 2 from the escape out of that nuclear wreck...
Tbh, I am absolutely traumatized and mortified of reapers. This is mostly due to the fact I was behind the Aroura, and didn't know one was there. I was dark, and i was about to scan the cyclops fragment, when I thought I saw something. I turned and looked foreward. After a few seconds, the giant face of a Reaper emerged from the darkness and almost ate me. Now, even after killing (the same one that scared me) one, the blood still drains from my face every time I see a sillouette, shadow, or hear the roar of a reaper.

I have one but I can’t find any more in the mushroom forest and some videos I watched say that there are lots by the back of the Aurora. I’ve heard some bad things about the back of the Aurora, but the videos said that avoiding the reapers is easy. Do I go to the back of the Aurora or somewhere else?
So when we wandered into the mushroom forest and saw a bone shark and what we thought was a reaper leviathan while looking for a lifepod we got pretty scared
There's a Reaper Leviathan outside my cyclops.
So how's your day been?
Edit: Imma scan him. (:<

Whenever I enter the buildings it feels creepy. Though exhilarating at the same time. Smh. But I'm mostly afraid of the crushing darkness that the reaper levithans come out of. Mostly i don't go near the crash site anymore. It's too stressful. I just started the game 3 days ago. And I'm almost to the inactive lava zone. (In creative mode)

Woah, it's been a hot second since I last visited this wiki... sorry for the hiatus I guess. Was busy doing real life stuff. But anyways, yada yada nobody cares about that. More relevant is that I have recently been playing through Subnautica, which I haven't done significantly since I went on hiatus. I've certainly come a long way, finally went to the lava zone in survival, beat the game, all achievements. I'm currently close to another full playthrough. Figured now was a good time to soft-rejoin.
Anyways, you saw the title. I probably won't be too active, but I will be here. Sometimes. Also, it would be weird just to make an announcement that is quite uninteresting, so here's my first, second, and third leviathan kills (I am no longer afraid of the dunes)

And I just put a Depth Module 1 on it, and I got it from the Aurora.
I'm about to start a war on the Reaper Leviathans.
Hungler decided to look for Jacob before heading to the island. He started looking around the grassy plateaus, but to no avail, so he thought of going back to the kelp forest and the shallows, hoping to find him there. That is until he noticed huge schools of Peepers swimming away from the plateaus as if they were migrating.
Hungler followed them thinking they could lead him to where Jacob was. After a while he noticed the red grass of the plateaus slowly decrease in number, signifying his arrival in a new biome: a huge, sandy expanse even greater than the grassy plateaus, inhabited by all sorts of creatures.
But there was one that stood out from the rest: a purple, humanoid creature with long claws, and this weird creature had an even weirder behaviour: it paid no mind to certain creatures while also being extremely aggressive towards other creatures. Hungler took a good look at the creatures it attacked to try and understand why it behaved like this, but was soon interrupted by a loud, bellowing roar. The Anglow immediately turned around, trying to locate the source of the sound and he saw it: a huge, serpentine creature swimming towards him.
He ran away, trying to find a place to hide from the giant beast and soon found an entrance to a cave that was too small for the predator.
His search for Jacob would have to wait. Hopefully nothing bad happened to him.
The first (aggressive) leviathans have finally appeared, the Reaper leviathans, together with the Warpers. Will Hungler be able to find Jacob before the Reapers do?
I swear, i will never not get scared of a reaper's roar.
Does anyone have any other possible theories other than that they were there to distract the sea dragon for previous inhabitants.

Is it actually possible to ride a reaper leviathan?
