Quite a few things. I'll name 3. The stasis rifle, the seamoth with its upgrades and the original story to the game that did have the ice dragon leviathan in a deep biome of its own.
Ozzy's lifepod getting attacked then him getting eating by a crabsnake.
Dunes on the border the sparse reef. End game trench right next to you with rich resources and the local Reaper is not close by. Thermal rocks in the area, build more than 9 Thermal plants on one or the 3 of them, then you'll have more than 3k base power.
Great safe location. There is Warpers but if you're not new to the game, they're not too much of a bother.
Though I personally prefer the large sparse reef mountain on the other side of the trench. Large flat land.
Bonus, another favourite location I like to build a base in the same area. From the dunes border with the sparse reef, if you go the sea treader's path are and go left around a large cave entrance, you'll find a large flat cliff edge with the dead zone. Perfectly safe and quiet, very close to the trench too. You could also build a base pathway out into the deadzone from inside to get your personal viewing of the 3x mega ghost laviathans for your own pleasure.
It's technically not really dunes anymore but more seatreaderpath/sparse reef. But the dunes west side is only a few metres away.
I never build anywhere else now. they're great laviathan-safe areas relatively close to reaper laviathans.
The Last Bacon was maybe my favourite a couple of years back but now I appreciate the small simple things, currently my favourite is Nxviss, really enjoy this person's content.
Hmm where would the Reaper Ravine be located you thinking? Sounds like a cool idea but where would it fit? If it's an entire new biome, then would the biome located?
Hmm. In Bz, when I take the Seatruck into the Crystal Caves and I come across one of the four shadow leviathans, I've stepped back from piloting the seatruck just before the leviathan attacks and the leviathan's script of going into attack mode suddenly switches back to its swimming routine and goes on its way. It didn't attack me. But that may be a glitch if "only leviathans" poll choice is leading. Idk.
When starting a new game, use the console commands and spawn in 1x ghost leviathans, 1x Reaper and 1 Sea Dragon in the starting area, then try to survive and complete the game normally. Then if that's possible bump it up to 2x Ghosts, reapers and sea dragons.
It's absolutely hilarious if you spawn more than 10 each and bait them to the escape pod and then hide in it, the walls of the pod aren't actually solid enough as they'll start smashing it and it'll eventually fly up into the sky and you'll be sent flying either very close or some distance away. You cannot survive the playthrough but it's fun. But yeah first paragraph above this one, give it a try if you haven't already.
Once they're dead, they're dead until an update. Then the update resets the leviathans.

I really hate the polls here. I accidentally tapped no. I meant Yes. No chance to change it? Like duh regular blade, it's immune to that heatblade.
You're left.
Sea Treader's Path border with The Dunes and Sparse Reef is absolutely mint. The spot it right near the trench down to the Lost River and it offers a safe location (if on survival) and borders with the Dead Zone. It's a large flat but land that has heaps of room large rooms and creativity. The edge of the map of course offers a chance to build a viewing tunnel out to view the super sized Ghost Leviathans.
Exact location is right where the start of the large tunnel in the seat treader's path is. To its right coming from the Dunes. The rock faces on either side of it are just sheer drops down to the void except for the area I'm talking about. It's my new favourite location. Above the bridge is the end of the Sparse Reef biome. Follow the End of the Blood Trench into the Sea Treader's path.
The Reaper is drawn really well, great job, it looks little goofy (the expression on its face). Keep drawing, you've got talent for it.
I wish I could play the original story line in BZ it's way more interesting than the final story. Seeing the Sea Emporeor Juvies in the arctics and the epic Ice Dragon would have been awesome.
There is one very easy way - Grab an egg raise in the the containment then once it's hatched simply go into the containment and scan the docile crashfish.
Alternative: Between West and NW from starting point/centre of Map, south of the crashed aurora there is a large bit of rock that nearly rises to the surface only a few metres away, in a hole leading inside the top of the rock is 2 crashfish but they're spawned horizontally. One will immediately charge towards you but the other won't because it's facing the opposite direction and because the plant and it is fancing horizontally when it should normally be facing upright against a surface, the bottom of the crashfish is sticking out of the base of the plant, if you very slowly approach from behind then you can successfully scan it.
Happy Scanning!
The second wreck, not the one in this pic but the other one; One playthrough I was wanting to simply swim down with the seaglider with my seamoth above the 4, yes 4 ampeels that for some strange reason wouldn't leave the damn area. They kept circling it (the wreck and its yard). Other times that I've explored the wreck, one or 2 linger but hardly that close to the wreck. So this time around I decided to just whizz past them the best I could without getting shock or bitten and I made it safely in the wreck, however it was like the walls on the wreck were not there because one the eels managed to both zap and bite me through the wreck's walls.
And when I was exiting, it was such bad timing, this same ampeel was swimming directly into the door frame and a second time it got me with both attacks.
First time in a very long time did my heart start to beat faster over this game I and lost my cool shooting wildly at the ampeel with my stasis gun and then I was able to flee. I now never have explore those wrecks, I can find all their blueprints in much safer biomes than this biome.
But related to post - Couldn't you repulsion cannon it out of the way? I think there is another entrance in that wreck, underneath.
Yes. And the new base pieces will unlock once you've unlocked the multipurpose room (visit floating island base at the start of the game to get the base fragment to unlock).
For me it's the crator's edge crag zone side. Along with a steep drop off, it's also very dark and the sound of many bonesharks all around you do their off-putting scream now and again. I had a go of building a base there but when trying to place lights and it lit up the dark waters and I could clearly see how many bonesharks swam in the one section, I packed up and relocated. Second would be the crator's edge followed by the crash zone.
When I first played Subnautica and was new to it all, I always chose the safe shallows and the sw grassy Plats bordering the grand reef and the sparse reef. But once I had completed the story and completed my first run through I decided to build bases where there are specifically thermal spires or larva holes. Like the bulb zone (only did that once), the dunes (there is a nice hill top right near the Sea Treader path and the Blood Kelp Trench - however 2 reapers love that hilltop - but still) and then the Lost River where the Ghost Laviathian Tree is. Great base location there. That's where my base is with my current playthrough.
I can fit about 12 on the foundation above the thermal vents spires (or less - depends). But basically the base has unlimited energy then.
So to conclude, yeah they're great but not as awesome as the biomes with the therms. Great for temp base until able to descend say to the leviathan egg tree area and set a base up there.
The SW/W Grassy Plats have a very tall rock spire and I would always use that as the location for my base set up. It's near the border with the sparse reef and the bk trench.
I prefer the original.
