They are the one thing I actively worry about now. Leviathans are loud and noticeable. These fuckers are everywhere.
Jesus christ; that sucks. I too use my Cyclops as a material truck, so I get the feeling.
Absolutely, but they don't inherently spawn there.
This is kind of minor, but somehow the Ghost Leviathan from the NBZ somehow followed my Cyclops through the Mountain Pass and into the Grassy Plateaus. I tried to kill it with my PRAWN, and then it fled in the EXACT opposite direction I intended; right towards my home base. So. Now that it was in the Safe Shallows (technically it was floating so not "in" the Safe Shallows) I had to kill it. Then it moved on my base AGAIN. I spent about 30 minutes trying to draw it away but it ended up thrashing my base and destroying both my PRAWN and Seamoth in the process. I got to the point of frustration that I used my Cyclops as bait, and momentarily succeeded in drawing it into the Kelp Forest nearby. It resumed its rampage of my base quickly though. Then I basically said fuck it and went at with my Thermoknife. It FINALLY died. I got a really funny in-game screenshot of it flying away though. Good shit. Oh, and I killed it after I went back to my last save where it hadn't destroyed my two vehicles. Here's a picture of the bastard.
Agreed; These fuckers ended my 2nd Speedrun by means of ILZ teleportation. 12 hours in too...
Remember; three blueprints are needed to make the Cyclops available to fabricate.
Hull: Mushroom Forests and the Dunes
Bridge: Same as above.
Engine: Mountains and Crash Zone.
Sure. Its kind of dangerous, so I suggest dropping a save before you go down there.
Dead Zone..? There aren't any Reapers in the Dead Zone that I know of... Honestly the ones in the Mountains get me. Mostly because of the rugged terrain and the eerie silence.
Just an add-on to the text. Kinda like a speedrun, but more casual.
You dont actually need to use the Cyclops, just for its fabricator. Everything done deep can be done better by the PRAWN.
If you want to continue your survival world post-game, here's some stuff I did/am doing:
1: Build all vehicles. 4/10 difficulty.
2: Find all blueprints. 7/10 difficulty. Use this wiki for help if needed.
3: Establish a Seabase in all biomes. 8/10 difficulty.
4: Scan EVERYTHING. 7/10 difficulty. (Use the Stasis Rifle for the Leviathans)
5: Make a garden with Flora from each biome. 4/10 difficulty.
6: Make a Mega-Seabase. 3/10 difficulty.
7: Attempt a Hardcore or a Speedrun.
Just some things I am/have done.
Uh no- there's Bonesharks. And the Bloodkelp Islands is just the bigger Bloodkelp biome.
Impossible. In order to create the rocket, you need the Shield Generator Module from the Cyclops.
Ok so; cracks knuckles You want to build your home base in the Safe Shallows. I know that sounds stupid, and lame, and uneventful, but it is the optimal spot. All of the other biomes have some kind of turn-off factor, like how the Dead River has 3 exits and is a literal cave. Oh, and the Ghost Leviathans in certain spots. With the SS (Safe Shallows) , you have a simple and easy access point from all over the crater.
That's for a MAIN BASE. You can build bases all over the map. Here's a tier list I made.
S-Tier
Safe Shallows : Easy. Ease of Access, and hence the name; no real dangers.
Mushroom Forest: The biome design is sick, plus the abundance of Lithium and Copper. Watch out for Reapers if you build on the edge of the one close to the Dunes.
A-Tier
Grassy Plateaus: Relatively safe with an abundance of wrecks and Sandstone Outcrops.
Underwater Islands: Building a base hanging off the side and looking down is crazy. There's also and easy pathway to the Mountain Island, and the Bloodkelp Islands as well.
Bloodkelp Islands/Zone: Lots of exploitable resources, such as Deepshrooms, Blood Oil, Uranite, Quartz, and Rubies. Oh, and one of the entrances to the Lost River can be found here.
Sea Treaders Path: The only reason I put this here is because of the treaders themselves. An infinite supply of Shale Outcrops, and Feces is enough to build and expand many bases.
B-Tier
Grand Reef: A lot of it is hard to access, though it does have an entry to the Lost River. Not much exploitables other than Rubies and Uranite.
Koosh (Bulb) Zone: Literally the most boring biome in the game. I'm not quite sure why anyone would want to build here anyways.
Kelp Forest: There isn't much danger, and there's lots of metal, but its shallow and often surrounded by the much better option of the Safe Shallows.
Mountains: Reapers. Lots of them. There isn't much great real estate to build on here anyways.
Sparse Reef: Kind of like the mountains, but replace the rare-ish Reaper for massive amounts of Bonesharks.
C-Tier
Lava Lakes: The very bottom. Great if you hate Nuclear Power Generators (Not sure why anyone would), or if you want to utilize the thing there. (Not saying anything)
Crash Zone: Titanium. Literally the only upside.
ILZ: Like the Lava Lakes, but a bit higher, and there's a few more resources. Minus easy access to "the thing" however.
Crags: Basically the same as the Sparse Reef. Boring.
Lost River: Do not be tempted. There are many different kinds of exploitables here, and theres an infinite supply of power to add. BUT. Danger everywhere. Seamoths can only get down to the junction. There is no safe place. It looks cool, but be a bit more safe-minded next time.
Dunes: Reapers. Lots of them. Unlike the Mountains, there are lots of wide open spaces to build on. If you enjoy the neighbors.
D-Tier
Jellyshroom Caves: Why... Why would you build down here..? You can't even safely* bring down a Cyclops.
Floating Island: Above land.
Mountain Island: Above land.

Whew that was a lot lmao
Heed some of my words please

If you found two in the MF, keep looking there; why'd you stop?
Pro tip my guy; they are LITERALLY found on the ground in the Grassy Plateaus. I know that sounds vague, but don't waste any time looking in wrecks.
Actually, theres an asterisk. In order to beat the game, you need the Cyclops. If you don't already know why, I wont say. I used it in order to craft something. Never actually used.
