Bulba trees are probably the best food in the game. They don’t take as much space as marblemelons but give plenty of food and water. They are create a lot of energy in bioreactors as well. Three or four trees will sustain you indefinitely. Just plant a new one when you use it up.
Melons are great too, but I had to use 1/2 a growbed (8 slots). Knife two and eat six each time.
There are supports embedded into holes in the bottom. It was in one of those that I found one.
I’m just curious if anybody has every tried playing a game using only console commands. Forget driving your slow vehicle or seaglide somewhere, just teleport there via console commands. Need a resource, just use the console to get one.
Is it possible to play the entire game this way?
If you are exploring shallow water like the crash zone near Aurora, Seaglide is probably better because a reaper could make off with your Seamoth while you are outside. I once got out to scan a wreck and later realized my Seamoth wasn’t where I left it and had suffered some major damage.
However, if you are in deeper water like the Dunes, Seaglide could be a disadvantage because you have to keep surfacing for air.
I thought the stages were automatically triggered at various points. Stage 4 is triggered when you visit the Disease Research Facility and it tells you to do a self scan.
I took Seamoth without a reaper problem. Just aim for mid-ship and follow the side the rest of the way to the front. Stay away from the engines or you will have a reaper problem. Park just in front of the ramp where it gets shallow. You will know it when you see it.
Maybe take 1 fire extinguisher (you will find one just about anywhere you need one), survival knife, propulsion/repulsion cannon, laser cutter, repair tool, sea glide and a little food and water. You want a mostly empty inventory as you will find lots of things you want especially food (emergency rations), water bottles, first aid kits and a lot of batteries.
Is that with or without the shield and ion power cells installed in the submarine?
I definitely misread the part about peepers. I knew they were using the pipes to enter and leave the facility, I thought it said the precursors trained them, but now that I’m reading it again it says the Sea Emperor used them to help creatures at the surface.
Did anybody else come to absolutely despise the precursors? Let’s look at what we know about them:
They came to the planet seeking a cure for a disease that originated elsewhere.
They built a bunch of devices, trapped a lot of creatures, and trained peepers to do their bidding.
They stole an egg from a leviathan (presumably a Sea Dragon), which caused it to attack and destroy their base, killing itself in the process.
That attack resulted in releasing their deadly disease on the entire planet and infected everything that lived there.
They genetically enhanced a creature to attack and kill any other creature that was infected with the disease.
When they couldn’t find a cure they gave up and left the planet infected with the disease they brought.
As they were abandoning their facilities they killed most of the creatures they had imprisoned, the notable exception being the ones trapped for centuries in the aquarium at the Primary Containment Facility.
They set up a massive planetary defense weapon that destroyed any ship that entered the planet’s orbit without even so much as a warning that the planet was under quarantine.
With everything they left in place, it was pure luck that Ryley was even alive long enough to cure the disease they brought to the planet. The precursors did everything imaginable to prevent that from happening.
They were kind of jerks, so no.
I think it was crashfish, I was swimming around the shallows and suddenly I was dead. Didn’t really see it coming, just happened.
One thing I found amazing about the trench is how there is an opening from the surface where you can drop almost straight down into the Lost River where the laboratory cache is (the one that requires the orange tablet). I found it mostly by accident. I couldn’t believe how it just kept going down!
My first reaper experience was when I tried going to Aurora the first time. I thought you had to get in by the engines so I parked there. A reaper took my Seamoth away. He didn’t destroy it so I got in and left.
Second encounter was after repairing Aurora, I found some nice wreckage below the lifepod. While exploring it a reaper took off with my Seamoth again. While I was repairing it and he showed up again. That time I took the hint and ran away. I’m not sure how it survived but I did get in and escape. He chased me back to the Kelp Forest.
If you really want your cuddle fish, you should go to the NW Mushroom Forest, there is one in a cave at the base of the giant tree. That’s actually a nice safe area to hang around.
When you really stop and think about it, the story of the Sea Emperor is one of the most tragic stories ever.
Clearly she was the last of her kind, if more had existed they would have released enough enzyme 42 to cure the planet of Kharaa
She was locked in a tiny (for her size) aquarium for 1000+ years.
She could not communicate with the precursors. She knew what they wanted but couldn’t (or wouldn’t) give it to them
She laid at least 6 eggs and the precursors stole one for their experiments
She was literally only alive in the hopes somebody would come along who could create the necessary formula to hatch her eggs. Who knows what would have happened if Ryley had not reached her?
At least she died after getting a chance to see her young and knowing they were moving into open water where they might one day continue her legacy.
The assumption is that even as infants they can hold their own against other leviathans. Either that or they are just not part of their food chain. If you look at the wiki for where they went, they are living in areas populated by reaper leviathans with no mother to protect them.
Lost River is mostly safe except where the Ghost Leviathans and Crab Squids hang out. The Tree Cove area is the safest biome in the game, the only thing that can hurt you are the thermal vents and deep shrooms and you have to try to get hurt by those.
Seamoth loses its usefulness as soon as you enter the Lost River, I never used mine again after I went down or even after I returned because by that point I just needed to escape the planet and everything I needed to do that was onboard my Cyclops.
Just ask yourself if you want to either leave a vehicle behind or swim back down to the Lost River to get either Seamoth or Prawn.
I just took Cyclops with Prawn on my sightseeing tour. Prawn for its drill arm and Cyclops for storage and food.
Keep in mind that with a few notable exceptions, most of the resources are available as large deposits so you need Prawn’s drill arm to collect them and Cyclops to store them. Sulfur and Nickel are available loose but below the green brine that hurts you.
I say leave it behind as there really isn’t much use for Seamoth in the Lost River and it cannot go any further down. Cyclops and Prawn are all you need in Lost River. The floor of the Tree Cove is below the maximum crush depth of Seamoth so you are taking a big risk.
That said, there are a couple of places you might be able to swim for the surface. It is a long swim from 800m down and you will likely have to pass a Ghost Leviathan, Crabsquids and other nasty creatures to get to there.
Exactly! Just like many people who play this game. I’m expecting somebody to prove whether it can or cannot be done.
Some of you people love extreme challenges in this game. After all, some of us play Creative mode while you play Hardcore and try to kill leviathans. I have a challenge for you that should make things somewhat more difficult, at least at the end.
My challenge is to complete the game in Survival or Hardcore mode without building a Prawn Suit.
It sounds impossible, doesn’t it? I think you can do ILZ and Lava Lakes with Cyclops. The reason I think it can be done is that I died in the PCF aquarium (got trapped behind glass walls and ran out of O2) and had to swim from where I parked Cyclops in the Lava Pit across Lava Lakes to the PCF with only my SeaGlide.
To me the most challenging part of the entire game is the Lava Castle and that is using the Prawn. Without it you have to get through the caves and into the Thermal Plant using only SeaGlide. You will probably take damage from the heat and you will need to fight off Lava Lizards. There should be enough loose kyanite in the Lava Castle to complete the game.
You also have to collect enough ion cubes to get through all of the tasks because you won’t have a drill arm to use on large deposits. That means you need:
Enough to build 1 blue tablet and possibly multiple purple tablets
1 for the portal in Thermal Plant (optional but recommended)
1 to activate the incubator
6 to open portals in PCF (there are two ion cubes in the aquarium and you only have to open the portal that leads to the QEP)
4 to build ion power cells
