We use the remaining juice to send a distress call and build whatever gear we can, then we find a way to the surface.
― CTO Yu, Lifepod 2 Chief Technical Officer Yu's Voicelog (T+2min)

CTO Yu was a crewmember on board the Aurora. Yu and her subordinate Berkeley escaped the ship in Lifepod 2, which crashed in the Northern Blood Kelp Zone. Yu eventually met up with Second Officer Keen alone at the Floating Island, but Keen's final log implies she was killed by a Reaper Leviathan while attempting to reach the Aurora to repair its long-range communication relay.
Pre-Crash[]
Prior to the crash, Yu reprogrammed one of Berkeley's assistant drones, causing it to act contrary (retrieving the wrong tool, etc) unless Berkeley speaks to it politely and addresses it by name as Albert. She claims that this made the drone "just like you" (as in to react like a human would). Berkeley tells Yu that she wasn't making his job any easier, or safer. Yu simply states that it's all that's stopping her from going mad from boredom.
This drone tinkering, or some other side project, was possibly the cause of an accident in Cargo Bay 3 involving a repulsion cannon and a modified battery charger, resulting in the spacing of all the dehydrated desserts onboard. At the time, this left dried fruit and nuts as the only available dessert for the next 39 weeks; or the rest of the time the Aurora was supposed to be traveling until it reached its destination.
She also leaves a message for Technician Hinkle, calling him a corporate stooge. She pointed out that no matter the passcode they set for the robotics bay, "the guys" will find a way in to joyride the Prawn Suits, and that if Second Officer Keen orders that they change the codes, unofficially proposes they use something that's easy to remember. She then suggests '6666', claiming the "guys will like that".
A PDA on the Aurora states her birthday as June 18th. It is possible that this was left by Berkeley, as the two appear to be close.
Post-Crash[]
She and Berkeley escaped into Lifepod 2. However, she says that the flotation devices have failed, although she manages to reconfigure the O₂ system to act as a bilge pump, which in turn is successful. Yu then tells Berkeley that they have stopped sinking and are alive, but they're 500 meters down and the oxygen will run out in 30 minutes. Berkeley asks what they'll do, and she explains that they'll use the remaining energy in the Lifepod to send out a distress call, build what materials they can from the fabricator, and find a way to the surface.
It is assumed that Yu and Berkeley got Keen's meeting point message to rendezvous on Floating Island. However, Berkeley is not present, strongly suggesting his demise, as Yu does not want to believe that only Keen and herself were the only ones alive.
On arrival, she got the idea to repair the Aurora's long-range comms relay so any survivors can easily communicate with each other, insisting to Keen that they can't be the only two that survived. Keen denies permission, intending to carry out Captain Hollister's last orders to rendezvous (thus, stay on land and wait for others to arrive). Yu replied that it wasn't about chain of command, but survival. Keen attempts to explain that his obligation as acting commander doesn't change on convenience, and asks her to get out of the water, but Yu simply tells him that if she gets into trouble, she'll send him her coordinates. Keen reluctantly followed her as he felt that he couldn't just let her go alone.
Two hours later Keen sends a remote message to the Rendezvous PDA, stating that the rendezvous was a failure (as only he and Yu had arrived), and that they had interecepted Alterra HQ's last transmission of sending a data package. He and Yu had come across a leviathan predator (most likely a Reaper) before they could reach the Aurora and to consider Yu and himself lost at sea, implying Yu had died.
Relationships[]
Berkeley[]
Yu and Berkeley have a positive relationship, and despite Yu having a higher position then Berkeley, she treats him as an equal and often teases him. It is possible that the PDA detailing her birthday was written by Berkeley.
The two manage to get into a Lifepod together, although whether this was due to convenience or they happened to be together (such as being on shift at the moment) is unknown.
Upon meeting Second Officer Keen at the Floating Island, Berkeley is not present with Yu, implying he had died or Yu was forced to abandon him.

From: CTO Yu You're such a corporate stooge, Hinkle, live a little! No matter what access codes we put on the robotics bay, the guys are still going to find a way to joyride the mechs. So if the second officer says we've got to change the codes, I'm just saying let's change them to something we won't all forget. How about 6666? The guys will like that. |
