Chinese Potato Plants are a non-native, terrestrial flora species found only in Exterior Growbeds and Plant Pots in and around the Floating Island Degasi Seabase. It is both plantable and scannable, and the source of the Chinese Potato.
As the name suggests it was genetically engineered by the Chinese, as apparently, there is a stigma towards synthetic food in their territories. It was designed to be highly adaptable to different environments, and the leaves can also be cooked and eaten (though not in-game), possibly inspired by edible sweet potato leaves. It has long since spread beyond the China Territories as a practical and dependable staple of fresh produce for both new colonies and space vessels on long commutes (and likely instalations such as space stations). The Degasi had them onboard that survived the ship's crash, and the Aurora cultivated them in growbeds as cooking ingredients, from which the tubers and leaves could be freshly picked each day and prepared in the ship's eateries.
Appearance[]
Chinese Potato Plants seems to lack a main stem, instead having multiple long leaves extending from the base. Several dark, round tubers can be seen below connected to the base. The plant also has several bioluminescent eye-like bulbs at the top of each stalk. The bulbs are yellow and the leaves are assorted shades of green.
Data Bank Entry[]
The Chinese potato is common throughout the China Territories, where synthetic foods are still stigmatized, and there remain large tracts of arable land on which to grow fresh produce. Genetically designed prior to the Expansion, this plant is highly adaptable to different environments, and a staple of new colonies galaxy-wide. Assessment: Edible |
