This article is about the Creepvine. You may be looking for the Bloodvine, or the Bloodroot.

Creepvine is a flora species which grows exclusively within Kelp Forests. By cutting a Creepvine with a knife, the player can acquire Creepvine Samples. Repeated knife strikes will eventually destroy the plant completely. The player can also collect Creepvine Seed Clusters from some Creepvines.

Creepvine Samples are edible, providing a small amount of food and a single point of water, and can be used to fabricate Fiber Mesh. Creepvine Seed Clusters are used to fabricate Lubricant and Silicone Rubber.

Appearance

Creepvines are towering green kelp-like plants that grow from the seabed. Some are so tall they reach the water's surface.

The central stipe is surrounded by smaller kelp blades. These blades increase in size and density the closer they are to the surface.

Some Creepvines grow Creepvine Seed Clusters about halfway up the stalk, which emit a yellow bioluminescent glow. These Creepvines can also be distinguished by a greater volume of kelp blades that give their upper section a thick, bushy appearance. A Creepvine with seeds has a limited number that can be harvested at a given time, but will grow them back over time.

Planting

Creepvines can be grown by the player via the Exterior Growbed or double stacked Alien Containment. Both Creepvine Seed Clusters and Creepvine samples can be planted to grow mature plants. A Creepvine planted in a single-storey Alien Containment will never fully mature.

When planted, Creepvine Seed Clusters grow into Creepvines that have seeds, while Creepvine Samples grow into the long, thin, seedless variant of the flora. Creepvines with seeds can be utilized to illuminate the exterior of Seabases without using artificial light sources. It is best to alternate seeded and seedless examples in a planter, as a full cluster of six plants can be excessively bright.

Planted Creepvines will regenerate their seeds over time.

Data Bank Entry

Creepvine DB

A kelp species concentrated in large forests, in shallow, sandy waters. Loose roots anchor the plant to the sea floor, from where it grows steadily toward the surface in pursuit of sunlight.

The stem is fibrous and rich in iron, making it both a viable base material for fabrication of textiles, as well as a basic foodstuff.
