Fred Lachance is a member of the Alterra Corporation, working in Sector Zero as a Seatruck pilot. He resided at Delta Station alongside Jeremiah Murgle before the base was abandoned for unknown reasons.

Life Prior To Below Zero[]
Prior to the planet's evacuation, Fred worked as a Seatruck pilot, carrying supplies between the Phi Robotics Center, Koppa Mining Site, and Delta Station, where he worked alongside Jeremiah Murgle. In the trailer, Fred is shown to have accidentally stumbled upon the cave containing the Frozen Leviathan, which was quickly closed off after it was discovered to have been infected with the Kharaa Bacterium.

Sam Ayou[]
Fred and Sam appear to have had a positive relationship. Fred refers to Sam as his friend on multiple occasions, and he seems to trust her quite a bit. This is evidenced when he tells her about his discovery of the Frozen Leviathan, confidential information which he was not supposed to share.
Parvan Ivanov []
Fred and Parvan appear to have had a generally positive relationship, both being Alterra employees not involved in scientific research. In an abandoned PDA found in the Koppa Mining Site, Parvan is shown expressing his frustration at how much control the scientists have over the operations. Fred is sympathetic, but the conversation ends with Parvan angrily telling Fred to tell Lillian she's wasting her time.
Lillian Bench []
Fred and Lillian seem to have had a positive relationship, given that Fred would often assist her with operations outside of his assignment. In a PDA found in the Twisty Bridges Emmanuel questions Fred, ultimately telling him "No more favours to friends".
Emmanuel Desjardins []
Unlike his generally positive relationships with his colleagues, Fred seems to have had an uneasy relationship with his boss. After an encounter with a squidshark forced Fred to abandon several of his seatruck modules, Emmanuel questions him about their disappearance and complains about their costliness. The exchange ends with Fred curtly reminding Emmanuel that he's welcome to accompany him on a few of his runs, to which Emmanuel quickly responds by saying that it won't be necessary and he will write the event off as an accident.
