This article is about the Gas Torpedo. You may be looking for the Vortex Torpedo.

The Gas Torpedo is an item used as ammunition for the Seamoth's Torpedo System and the Prawn Suit Torpedo Arm for the Prawn Suit. It fires gas from Gas Pods, creating a damaging cloud of poison.

The gas cloud has the same visual appearance as the gas from the gas pods. However, while the cloud from the gas pods is only visible for 8 seconds, the gas torpedo's cloud can be seen for 13 seconds. Furthermore the gas clouds deal somewhere between 39 and 42 damage per second to fauna, for a total of 500 to 555 damage per gas cloud, making them a surprisingly effective damage tool, given a target is held in place for the full duration.

When fired, the Gas Torpedo will lock on to nearby creatures. If there is a Leviathan Class Predator nearby, it will automatically lock onto it regardless of other nearby creatures.

The icon for the Gas Torpedo's icon is slightly different to that of the Vortex Torpedo, although it shares the same model.

Trivia[]

  • Because of its nature, the Gas Torpedo can be classified as the game's only lethal weapon. The Knife, and the Prawn Suit's default arm and Drill Arm may be also considered as such but their purposes serve more as survival tools, and so may the Alien Rifle and Doomsday Device, although they are unusable.
  • Since the damage of gas clouds stacks on top of each other, it is possible to inflict great amounts of damage to a target stuck in the stasis bubble. Although it should be noted the torpedoes should be fired as close to the target as possible for this, since they tend to consider either other gas clouds, or the stasis bubble as a surface to explode on.
  • Reefback Leviathans are immune to the effects of the gas cloud.
