  • You're misreading the description. 2 says the structures on the top and bottom are the creature's fins. That's clearly shown on the picture with the "2" notation. Most likely the "tubes" being referred to on the creature's "torso" are those gill-like openings. As the scan says, it's not clear what they're for, so we can't just fanon them being siphons. Most likely, that's to explain how they can spread Enzyme 42 as they swim, not to explain how they can move. Nothing in the description of the Peeper implies it moves the way you're claiming it does.

(This would also be why the Oculus description doesn't mention those structures, since Oculus only have tiny holes on their flanks, most likely vestigial openings that aren't connected to anything)

    • That just looks like a flat surface to me, and the wake is coming from halfway along the fin, not ffrom that part.

  • I've done 2 runs solely for testing the # of arm & suit fragments outside of the Aurora in wrecks. Got 2/4 suit fragments both times and 5/20 and 6/20 arm fragments on each of the runs. Looked at all 20 of the wrecks and 11 of the scatters. I highly doubt there's enough to complete the suit.

    • The locations for the arms/suits outside of the Aurora were also in the same wrecks both times.

One thing I would like to know more about is how item despawning works. Large wrecks that I visit later on are often mostly or completely empty. If I visit the wrecks in a different order in a new game, those same large wrecks will be full of fragments if I visit them first.

    • My theory for despawning fragments is that if you have already unlocked the blueprints for that object, any new wrecks that you have not previously-loaded into memory (i.e. visited the region close enough to have the wreck spawn in at least once) will no longer have fragments for that blueprint. There do seem to be some exceptions that always spawn (e.g. propulsion cannon fragments).

I could spend a couple of hours testing this, but it would save me some time if you already know the answer to that.

    • From my experience the amount of fragments I get in a wreck and degasi seabases is different each playthrough. No matter the order I go. I once got like 10 stasis rifle fragments at the jellyshroom degasi base. The aurora stays the same.

    • Correct. Nearly all fragments will spawn randomly in every playthrough. However, furniture and databoxes always have fixed locations and contents.

I did 3 more runs (this time being a bit more careful with observation) and found that the prawn suit and arm fragments outside of the Aurora also spawned in the exact same locations in each playthrough. - Arm fragments: 3 in wreck2, 2 in wreck4, and 2 in wreck5. - Suit fragments: one each in wrecks 4, 5, and 7.

That makes for a total of 7 arm fragments and 3 suit fragments outside of the Aurora, which also matches the data from player Maalteromm. I've yet to find any reports of a 4th suit fragment in any wrecks, though I'm open to the possibility of its existence.

      ---

I also tested how despawning works, and it's exactly as I theorized. (I was wrong about the propulsion cannon being an exception.)

  • Thanks for the category fix. Was trying to make it link to the category instead of it actually adding the page to the category, but alas.

  • I’m debating wether to add the fact that the Oculus is the rarest edible fish in Subnautica, should I do it or not?

  • I have again posted Deep Shroom as a resource in the ILZ. If you have issues with plants which can be picked, stored and used as resource objects to craft materials I suggest you have a look at every other biome page in this wiki.
